We are an engineering office for software. We develop web-based software and specialise in complex portals and platforms that are simple to use, easy to find and work perfectly on any device. Our focus thereby always lies on the quality and security. 100% line coverage is the norm for our unit tests. Thanks to our location in Wallisellen near Zurich, we maintain short communication channels to our customers.

We are young, highly educated and our know-how covers the newest web technologies and systems. In today's fast-paced digital world we consider staying up-to-date and continuously educating ourselves as crucial. We don't develop cookie-cutter solutions, but approach every project as its own individual thing. This is why our projects are as unique as our customers.

We are looking for you as a software engineer to support our team.

Your mission

As a software engineer at Renuo, you'll work to build new product features and keep our apps fast, secure, and reliable. Depending on your interests and skills, you may do more frontend work, using React, HTML, CSS and JavaScript, or more backend work, where our primary technology is Ruby on Rails. We also use other technologies like Flutter for mobile development.

In particular, this means:

  • Software development with Java Spring and Angular – if desired also using other web technologies (Ruby on Rails / React / TypeScript / JavaScript / HTML5 / CSS3)

  • Requirements engineering, technical assistance and advisory of clients

  • Database design using SQL (Postgres, MySQL)

  • Participation in project management (Scrum)

We're not into heroics or all-nighters: this is a 40-hour per week job (or less, if you like to).

Our expectations

We're looking for candidates with (at least) a Bachelor Degree in an engineering discipline. You should be experienced in Java Spring, Angular and with the staples of full-stack web development: HTTP, HTML, JavaScript, and CSS.

If you lack any of this, that’s no problem. We will teach you! We care about what you can do and how you do it, not about how you got here.

In particular, this means:

  • You've got an engineering degree (at least B.Sc.)

  • You have a lot of programming experience and are familiarized with Java Spring Boot and Angular

  • You're at home in the web (HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript)

  • Nice to have: Ruby, Python, Rust

We value people who can take a stand yet commit even when they disagree. We subject ideas to rigorous consideration and challenge each other, but all remember that we’re here for the same purpose: to do good work together. That comes with direct feedback, openness to each others’ experience, and willingness to show up for each other as well as for the technical work at hand.

This is not a remote job. You are required to be located somewhere in Switzerland and that you come to the office twice or three times a week. All the other days are up to you: you’re free to work where you work best: our office, home office, co-working space, coffeeshops.

What we offer

Depending on your experience, you can expect a salary between CHF 84,000 - 108,000.

Our benefits include:

  • 10% investment time: You can spend 10% of your working time discovering new tools/technologies and learning new things. This time is paid and belongs to you.

  • Learning week: We spend a week every year learning and growing together. This week is about team building, getting to know each other better and learning about new and unusual technologies. It's about doing all the things that everyday work doesn't allow.

  • Learning days: At least once a quarter, we hold a shorter version of the Learning Week. A Learning Day focuses on a specific topic, and everyone is free to attend or not to attend

  • 20% of company profits are shared: We share 10% of the company's profits with all employees every year. We donate another 10% to charity and open source projects.

  • Flexible working hours: For us, this means not only that you decide when you work, but also how much. The salary is based on the hours worked and you get a flexible hours/week contract. You decide how much you want to work.

  • We run our company with heart

  • We are happy to hand over responsibility and leave you a lot of personal responsibility

  • We have a shower – do you like sports?

  • We have as few rules as necessary

Apply now

Please submit an application with a CV and a cover letter that tells us about yourself and about what you can bring to Renuo. Tell us about something you’ve done, something that’s relevant to the kind of work we do, something that excites you. Overall, be descriptive, but don’t write a novel — 500 words or so is plenty.

If you've participated in open source work of any kind, please include links to pull requests, bug reports, feature pitches, or any other public engagement. Open-source participation is by no means a requirement, but if it's something you've done, we'd like to look at it.

We will reply to all applications. If you pass the first screening, you’ll be asked to come to our office for a day to meet and get to know each other. You’ll also be asked to do one or more technical exercises. Please consider whether you’d be willing to dedicate that time before applying.

Samuel Steiner ([email protected]) is looking forward to hear from you!
